- The "french" method -

Forma franceseThe "French form", also called the "external form" is none other than the external form of the structure, which is formed within the outer contours.

The upper and lower surfaces are traced using a template to create the external contours.

This system makes it easy to reproduce a classical exterior (the reason for which the instruments can perhaps seem more convincing than the classic or Cremonese method), but leaves little room for personal interpretation, and ignores the spirit of the instrument maker.

Less used today than during the eighteen hundreds when it was frequent, it reduces hours of work; all parts of the case are created separately, perhaps in series and are then assembled.
